WELCOME TO THE
WHEELMEN LEMC
WEBSITE
Welcome to the Wheelmen New York, LEMC site. We are a Law Enforcement motorcycle club, based on Long Island. We ride in support of Law Enforcement clubs, causes, charities as well as veteran's groups and causes. We ride in support of our chosen profession, and of America and our freedoms. We will give respect to all, and we ask for it in return.
HISTORY
The Wheelmen began in early 2005. The original 6 founding members (of which only four are still active), calling themselves "The Core", were part of a larger, different LE club prior to forming The Wheelmen. After a long thought out process, it was decided that they would break off and form their own club, with less rules and less bureaucracy. We wanted to ride, not attend meetings just to talk about it! Initially, we had no rules, regulations, dues, meetings, etc., but with time or Club grew in size and therefore, changes were inevitable. These changes included members leaving the Club and others joining. By doing this, the Club is now at it’s strongest in terms of Brotherhood and camaraderie and has never been tighter. Other changes instituted were the election of Officers, dues being collected, and a few meetings a year. By doing this, they were able to have the Club’s best interest in mind and grow even stronger.
MEMBERSHIP
The Club is made up mostly of Law Enforcement personnel and will always maintain a 75% Law Enforcement percentage. To join, you must be an active, retired or former Law Enforcement officer or Public Safety employee, sheriff, parole, probation or correction officer, in good standing. You will be required to be sponsored by Board Member, attend a minimum amount of rides, and then be voted into the Club by a majority vote of the Board.
We also understand that many members, etc., have Non-Law Enforcement friends that they've had for many years and that they ride with socially. A Non- Law Enforcement candidate will also have to be sponsored by a Board Member, attend a minimum amount of rides, have a probation period of six months, and then be voted into the Club by a majority vote of the Board. This candidate should be gainfully employed, a supporter of Law Enforcement, of sound character, and know how to operate a motorcycle safely.
There is never any pressure to join or not to join. We seek quality over quantity, and sometimes, we may not always provide what you need. No hard feelings. We hold no grudges. There are no restrictions on the type of motorcycle you ride. All we ask is that it can maintain safe highway speeds.
CLUB RIDES
Any club rides are open to all who would like to attend. We have many members who have been riding for many years and have gained a tremendous amount of experience. We also have many highly trained motorcycle patrol officers in our ranks. We ride in the traditional 2 x 2 formation. If you feel this is not up to your abilities, all we ask is that you stay to the rear of the package. There will always be a designated Lead rider and a Tail Gunner. The Lead rider will go as fast as the weakest rider can travel. If you have any problems or questions, speak up; otherwise we will not know if we can help.
